Railyard to be honored in Las Vegas

From Culture Map Houston:

The Railyard, located in a small strip center just on the west side of the railroad tracks on San Felipe, has been named a finalist in the 2012 Nightclub & Bar Awards for “Small Wonder Bar of the Year.”

The bar — which, along with Tex-Mex eatery Vida in the same shopping center, is owned by Trey Melcher — was formerly the Roll-N Saloon, and is one of only two bars in Texas to reach the finals.

The Railyard, along with Stats Sports Bar and Grill, in Tomball (a finalist for Sports Bar of the Year) will be honored in Las Vegas at the Nightclub & Bar Convention and Trade Show in March. (Two Austin venues were named finalists in the nightclub categories, although no Houston clubs were recognized.)

Owner Trey Melcher called the award “a surprise and honor,” and said it was good to be “recognized in the company of national leaders in the hospitality industry.”

The Railyard opened in 2010 and has been a gameday haunt for nearby River Oaks neighbors, many of whom had also frequented the Roll-N in the four decades it was in operation at the same spot.
